What Is the Cost of a Chiropractor After a Car Accident? 3 Factors That Can Influence Your Bill

On average, the cost of a chiropractor after a car accident ranges from $34 – $106 per visit.

The total cost of chiropractic care after a car accident, however, will vary depending on:

  • Your location
  • The severity of your injury
  • Whether x-rays are needed and the number of views that are required
  • The types of treatments you need, such as:
    • Electrical stimulation
    • Ultrasound
    • Acupuncture; and
    • Massage
  • The number of visits you will need; and
  • Your insurance coverage

#1: Whether Imaging Is Needed

Ideally, a chiropractor will run you through a series of x-rays following your car accident. This is a critical step in accurately diagnosing your injuries and determining the appropriate treatments.

Depending on the findings, your chiropractor may refer you out for a:

  • CT scan
  • MRI; or
  • Other diagnostic testing

#2: The Severity of Your Injury

The severity of your injury is a huge factor in the cost of a chiropractor after a car accident

At Therapia Wellness Clinic, we find that it is not uncommon for someone who is involved in a car accident to sustain injuries to multiple parts of their body, including their:

  • Neck
  • Shoulders
  • Upper back
  • Lower back; and
  • Tailbone

For this reason, the need for multiple types of treatment for various injuries may also impact the cost of your chiropractic bill.

It is reasonable to expect a series of visits following your accident to treat any discomfort, but a more severe injury may require:

#3: The Qualifications/Experience of Your Chiropractor

The experience and qualifications of the chiropractor you choose can also impact the cost of a chiropractor after a car accident.

While all chiropractors must meet certain basic criteria to obtain their chiropractic license, some chiropractors choose to continue their education beyond these requirements and earn other specialized certifications.

Therapia’s Dr. Daryn Fanney is a board-certified Chiropractic Physician who has been practicing for over 10 years. Dr. Fanney selected the field of Chiropractic after seeing the amazing results of holistic chiropractic treatment in his own recovery following a serious car accident. Chiropractor Bill After Car Accident — Who Pays?

After the shock of your car accident wears off, you will most likely wonder, “Does car insurance cover chiropractic?”

Nearly all Oregon drivers are required to have mandatory Personal Injury Protection (PIP). Your PIP coverage will pay up to a certain amount for chiropractic care, regardless of who is at fault.

What Areas of Chiropractic Care Are Covered?

In Oregon, PIP provides up to $15,000 of coverage, or one year’s worth of medical bills, for each person in the vehicle, regardless of who caused the accident.

The law entitles you to receive immediate benefits, including the payment of medical bills, regardless of the circumstances or fault of the accident.

Additionally, you have the right to select your doctor, and there is no referral required for you to receive acupuncture treatments.

The friendly staff at Therapia Wellness Clinic is happy to manage your insurance billing so that you can focus on feeling better — without having to worry about incurring out-of-pocket expenses.

PIP coverage includes all necessary medical care, including:

  • Chiropractic visits
  • Acupuncture
  • Massage therapy
  • Labs
  • CT scans
  • MRIs
  • Surgery referrals
  • And more

How Much Does Insurance Pay for Chiropractic Care?

If you have liability insurance in Oregon, your personal injury protection rider (PIP) automatically pays up to $15,000 for each person involved in the accident. In most cases, this is more than enough to cover medical expenses, including the cost of a chiropractor after a car accident.

Who Is NOT Covered by PIP?

While they have been exempt in the past, beginning on New Year’s Day 2022, ride-hailing companies (including taxis) will be required to provide PIP (Personal Injury Protection) for both drivers and passengers in Oregon.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at 2 types of drivers who may or may not be covered by PIP: motorcycle drivers and visitors from out of state.

Motorcycle Drivers

Insurance companies insuring motorcycle drivers in Oregon are not required to include personal injury protection (PIP) coverage unless the motorcyclist specifically asks for it.

The issue is that most bikers assume that it is already written in since it is an automatic rider on all automobile insurance policies.

All too often, the first time a motorcycle driver realizes they do not have PIP coverage is after they are in a serious motorcycle accident

Motorcyclists without PIP will have to rely on their health insurance to cover the cost of a chiropractor after a car accident or pay out-of-pocket.

Out-of-State Drivers

Out-of-state drivers may not carry PIP if it is not mandatory in their state.

There are currently 14 states that require their residents to have personal injury protection (PIP), including:

  1. Delaware
  2. Florida
  3. Hawaii
  4. Kansas
  5. Maine
  6. Massachusetts
  7. Michigan
  8. Minnesota
  9. New Jersey
  10. New York
  11. North Dakota
  12. Oregon
  13. Pennsylvania; and
  14. Utah

Don’t Get Stuck Holding the Bill — Seek Chiropractic Care as Soon as Possible Following a Car Accident

When it comes to filing a claim for medical care needed due to a car accident, it is critically important to seek care sooner rather than later.

The longer you wait to schedule a chiropractic appointment, the longer your injury may take to treat — and the harder it may be to prove to your insurance company that your injury was a result of the car accident.

Say you have a fender bender over the weekend. Wednesday rolls around, you don’t notice any issues — in fact, you seem to be feeling just fine. Yes, you have a pounding headache, but your teething baby has you sleep-deprived. And your neck is a little tight, but your work has been extra stressful.

Many times, people will brush off the pain and discomfort they feel following a car accident.

The problem is, the issues you are attributing to something else can suddenly increase exponentially down the road, causing you to realize that they might actually be stemming from your accident.

Car accidents are jarring and can affect your body in a myriad of ways. Whether you feel like you need to or not, it is wise to schedule a chiropractic appointment immediately following a car accident, ideally within the first 72 hours.

Not only can an immediate chiropractic visit help avoid any potential medical issues, but it can also ensure that your insurance will cover the cost.

When you call Therapia for your initial visit, we’ll ask for your insurance information.

We will be able to verify your insurance benefits over the phone or by e-mail with the necessary details.
